Columbus schools face transportation crisis

Columbus City Schools (CCS) is currently collaborating with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce to provide bus transportation for approximately 120 charter and nonpublic students amid an emergency motion filed by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost. The district has previously deemed these students “impractical” for transportation, leading to complaints from parents about insufficient notice regarding their children’s transportation status. Under Ohio law, school districts must transport nonpublic students living within district boundaries or face penalties. CCS stated: “The transportation team has been diligently working to identify routes for the 120 students who are currently in mediation.” The Ohio Supreme Court has ordered CCS to respond to the motion by Monday, as the district aims to balance the needs of these students with the over 9,000 others already being transported.
