First Light Safety Technology recently conducted a study to evaluate the effectiveness of their illuminated stop arms on school buses, addressing the growing issue of illegal passings. The study involved 15 school districts known for high violation rates, with data collected before and after the installation of the stop arms. Brett Kuchciak, specification and compliance manager at First Light, noted: “Our product’s job is to increase the visibility of the school bus and give motorists the most time to recognize and react.” The results were promising, showing a significant decrease in illegal passings in 14 out of 15 districts, particularly a 73% reduction in low-light conditions.
