Unbound Academy, an Arizona online charter school set to open in the fall, is pioneering the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. The school, approved by the state school board, will enroll around 200 students in grades 4 to 8, focusing on personalized learning experiences. According to Marcelo Worsley, an associate professor at Northwestern University, “COVID kind of pushed us more into that space,” highlighting the need for technology in education. The school’s model positions teachers as guides rather than traditional instructors, allowing them to focus on emotional support and motivation. MacKenzie Price, a cofounder, emphasized, “You cannot get rid of the human in the classroom. That is the whole connection.” The curriculum will utilize AI to adapt lessons based on individual student performance, ensuring a tailored educational experience. Unbound Academy aims to blend technology with human interaction, setting a new precedent in the educational landscape.
