Adams indicted: NYC in turmoil

New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted by a federal grand jury, marking a significant moment for the city, especially its school system. As the first sitting mayor to face such charges, which include accepting bribes and illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources, he can continue his duties, yet pressure mounts for his resignation. The indictment raises concerns about the leadership of the city and its schools, particularly with Schools Chancellor David Banks announcing his retirement. Aaron Pallas, a professor at Columbia University, warned that the indictment could “paralyze the DOE” and hinder progress in the education sector. If Adams resigns, public advocate Jumaane Williams would take over decisions regarding the school system.
