The protest, organized by the Live Oak Elementary Teachers Association, is part of the California Teachers Association’s We Can’t Wait campaign, highlighting dwindling resources for educators. Lauren Pomrantz, president of the teachers’ association, noted that teachers are often forced to cover costs out of their own pockets, commented: “We deserve better than having to seek out these tiny little raises year, after year, after year.” The rally also aimed to raise awareness about Proposition 55, which taxes high-income earners to support K-12 education, as well as the impact of recent federal cuts on local programs.
