Texas schools face phone ban challenge

In a recent board meeting, Carthage ISD Superintendent Jarrod Bitter discussed the implications of House Bill 1481, which mandates a ban on personal communication devices in Texas schools during the school day. Bitter said: “The board’s going to be required to adopt that policy, to implement that policy and to ensure compliance,” emphasizing that there will be no opt-out option. The law extends beyond smartphones to include smartwatches, headphones, and even personal tablets or laptops. While acknowledging potential pushback and logistical challenges, Bitter highlighted the benefits of reduced distractions in the classroom.
