In Chandler, Arizona, Hamilton High School has launched a two-year career and technical education (CTE) program focused on semiconductor manufacturing, responding to the growing workforce demands in the industry. Senior Alina Kiselev, who enrolled in the program, expressed her curiosity about semiconductors, stating: “I used to think [the semiconductor industry] was all about the people in the bunny suits working with the wafers, but it’s so much more than that.” The program, supported by state and federal grants, aims to equip students with essential industry vocabulary and skills. With Arizona’s significant investments in semiconductor manufacturing, the program is timely and necessary. Chandler USD has collaborated with the University of Arizona and various industry partners to develop a curriculum that evolves with the sector. As the demand for trained employees in technology fields increases, other districts are also exploring similar CTE programs.
