$13m boost for active transport projects

The California Transportation Commission has awarded $13m to four Active Transportation programs in Marina, Seaside, and Salinas, as announced by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County. “These awards demonstrate what we can accomplish when local communities, schools, and regional partners work together,” said TAMC Executive Director Todd Muck. The funding includes $9.4m for the Broadway Avenue Complete Street Corridor Project in Seaside, aimed at enhancing safety for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, $1m is allocated for educational programs at local schools. In Marina, $980,000 will support traffic safety education for students and seniors, while Salinas receives $1.5m for safety education linked to the Harden Parkway Path. These initiatives aim to increase walking and biking trips, enhance safety, and promote public health, leveraging Measure X to secure competitive state funds.
