Community rallies for Juneteenth museum

At a recent meeting of the Galveston ISD Board of Trustees, community members voiced strong support for establishing a Juneteenth museum at the former L.A. Morgan Elementary School site. Historian Sam Collins III and Rev. Tim Sykes were among those advocating for the museum, which aims to honor the legacy of Juneteenth. The board is considering two proposals: one from Build Galveston for workforce housing and another from Hope Tutorial Incorporated for the museum, which seeks $7m in state funding.
